Case Study: Indeed

Indeed and the NHS Mass Hiring Fairs - April to May 2022

The NHS had an immediate and urgent need to recruit health and social care workers to fill vacancies left - in part - by COVID19 and resultant pandemic. Together with Indeed - their recruitment partner and our client - they looked for innovative ways to fill these vacancies and to get more people into work - and fast !

What we did

It was agreed to use COVID19 vaccinations centres - where the work of the NHS was already being showcased and footfall high - as the locations for a series of "mass hiring fairs". This ambitious undertaking saw a rapid rollout of "mass hiring fairs" across the UK at which more than 3000 candidates were invited, briefed, interviewed, vetted, offered, contracted and brought back into work on the spot !

What we delivered

A significant, collaborative effort involving NHS England and Improvement HCSW Programme Team (National Team), NHS England and Improvement HCSW Programme Team (Regional Team), NHS Trust(s) and ICSs, Indeed (NHS Preferred Partner/Recruitment) and Worldspan (Indeed Preferred Partner/Event Management). The timeline from 1st briefing to "event ready" was less than four working weeks from March 2022 to April 2022. A widely-shared vision and mission for these events helped to foster a spirit of deeply collaborative effort. But the recruitment process - by its very nature - still had to considered, thorough and, ultimately, respectful of all potential and successful candidates. Importantly, there was no "blueprint" for this event. It borrowed heavily on elements of the concept of a "mass hiring fair" but had never been undertaken in this format by the NHS, Indeed or Worldspan before. Or, most notably, under pandemic restrictions.

We delivered "mass hiring fairs " in Plymouth, Billericay, Southampton, Basingstoke, Manchester, Birmingham or Leicester, London, Leeds (March – April 2022). At the first event in Plymouth on 11.03.22 University Hospitals Plymouth Events Day - Candidates Registered (367); Candidates Interviewed (295); Offers Made (239). By the last event in Bristol, over 3000 people had accepted job offers with the NHS - an increase of 2,500 on the original target.
